Raise The Pride

The Problem_

The authorities are not supportive on all forms of official LGBTQ expression, forcing local communities to fly under the radar in concern. This year, Shanghai Pride, China's longest-running and only ‘major’ annual celebration, abruptly shutdown, amidst increasing clampdown on LGBTQ rights. The Pride flag, was declared illegal by authorities and forced into the shadows.

The Idea_

On Pride Day, Shanghai Pride created a disruptive moment. We collaborated with 6 local apparel designers and interpreted the Pride flag with t-shirts of representative colours, turning Shanghai’s iconic outdoor clotheslines into our proudest expression. Flying them high and proud in every nook and cranny of the city, we brought together the LGTBQ community in solidarity, getting them to Raise Their Pride in plain sight.
